Construction of the A10 Tauern Motorway as a major north-south connection across the Eastern Alps called for many tunnels to be planned and built.

In Germany, underground construction was at its peak and provided ample opportunity for the experience our office had acquired in Alpine tunnelling to be introduced to urban areas. This was the start of more than twenty years of planning and permanent development of tunnel engineering according to the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).

In the course of this pioneering effort, Franz Laabmayr opened our Munich office in May 1975. Our Salzburg office, where we are presently located, followed in 1977.

Our consulting activities were not confined to tunnelling, but instead we purposely focused on engineering for road structures, such as retaining walls of all types, anchored walls etc. Here, too, we were often able to institute innovative new methods as an economic solution for difficult engineering problems.

Road-construction design in Alpine terrain also entails soil and rock mechanics for slope stabilization, large-scale rock cuts as well as for foundations for large bridges. As consulting engineers, geotechnical engineering is one of our everyday concerns, and soil and rock mechanics one of our special concerns.

In a civil engineering office, structural engineering plays a very special role. And structural engineering for industrial facilities and other buildings was a natural addition to our services. Since 1978 our office has been active in this field of engineering as well.

In the mid 1980's we first offered supervision services for construction of underground and tunnel projects. Later these services have been expanded to rock and soil mechanics projects. Since 1995 we supplement our consulting services with tunnel renovation, tunnel inspection and tunnel safety.

On 1 January, 1994 the civil engineering office "IL-Laabmayr & Partner Consulting Engineers" was founded. From 1994 to 2003 its owners and Managing Directors were Franz Laabmayr, C.E., and Manfred Eder, C.E.

On 1 January, 2004, Albert Helmberger, C.E., joined as co-owner the Management so since that time Manfred Eder, C.E. and Albert Helmberger, C.E. are the Managing Directors of "IL - Laabmayr & Partner, Consulting Engineers".

On 1 January, 2005, while founder Franz Laabmayr retires, his son Roland Laabmayr joined our company as co-owner.
